Turkey’s National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar evaluated the developments taking place in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.
Akar said that the Turkish Armed Forces continue their activities day and night to protect the rights and interests of Turkey in the Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.
“Cyprus is our national cause. It has to be kept in mind that Turkey will not allow a fait accompli,” he said.
“We are a guarantor country. Whether Greece or Britain uses their own rights as guarantors is up to them. But we will. That is why you cannot do anything to our brethren as long as we are there. Do not attempt a fait accompli. Do not test us.”
Akar reiterated that any proposed solution that does not include Turkey will be futile and cannot be realized.
He said although Turkey has repeatedly highlighted that it respects agreements and attaches importance to good neighbourly relations and international law, some countries have distorted those statements.
“What Turkey does in the region is not a threat, Turkey has a right to protect its legal rights,” said Akar.
